The Place Where We All Live is the eighteenth episode of the second season of Ni Hao, Kai-Lan, and the show's thirty-sixth overall episode.

Kai-Lan and the gang receives kites from Ye Ye and have so much fun with them that they don't notice that they leave the wrapping paper on the ground, which causes problems for the ants, snails, and worms, who are about to open a new fruit stand. Now they have to pitch in and help stop all things that harm the Earth.

Plot[]

Kai-Lan and her animal friends are watching the ants, the snails, and the worms building a fruit cart. Ye-Ye arrives giving everyone presents, which are kites. However, they leave behind the wrapping paper, which gets blown away into the ants' place, blocking the bridge, covering the fruit trees from the snails, and blocking the river, preventing the worms from getting water.

Kai-Lan recaps that they didn't pick up our wrapping paper, which caused it to be blown away. Kai-Lan says that it's all their fault that trash landed in the ants' nest and blocked everything. Kai-Lan then comes up with a solution; "in everything you do, make sure that you take care of the place where we all live." Kai-Lan comes up with a plan, getting rid of the wrapping paper that block the paths. They then take the paper to a paper recycling bin, and eventually take other things like plastic bottles onto their recycle bin.

Kai-Lan returns to the ants' place, only to find cars with engines that make the ants cough via smoke. They state instead of using cars, they use bikes instead, but they aren't as fast as the cars. Kai-Lan comes up with an idea; using kites out of wrapping paper to make them go faster. The fruit stand that the ants have been working on, finally opens, with everyone thanking Kai-Lan and her friends.

Trivia[]

  • This is the final season 2 episode for the Ants.
  • This episode dedicates to the Earth Day 2010.
  • this is the only Ni Hao, Kai-Lan episode to be simulcast on both Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.
  • this episode is included on the 2010 DVD release of Nickelodeon Go Green before it airs on TV.
  • This is the first episode to feature the 2009 Nickelodeon Productions logo (the one without the productions text) on home video releases of the series (which are the Nick Jr. Compilation DVDs, and later the "Princess Kai-Lan" DVD) to plaster the 2008 Nickelodeon "Light Bulb" logo until 2014.
  • This is the second episode (after Kai-Lan's Big Surprise) where the "What Can We Try" song comes after "We Got It". If counting the fact that What Can We Try comes after We Got It, Let's Find Out Why was sung 7 minutes in, We Got It was sung 9 minutes in, and What Can We Try is sung 9 and a half minutes in, this makes this the episode were "We Got It" was sung earliest.
  • Following Kai-Lan's Big Surprise, this is the second main problem to be caused by nature/gravity, not directly from someone else.
  • A clip of Kai-Lan and her friends cleaning up was also used in a Nick Jr short to celebrate Earth Day and the environment, which predated the episode's release.
  • In 2010, this episode was nominated for an Environmental Media Association Award. [1]

Errors[]

  • Tpwwalerror

Plastic in the wrong bin. Notice how all three of these bins have a "paper" icon, yet the bin in the middle is getting plastic.

When the Ants got out of their truck, picked up the trash and handed it to Hoho, the truck and the ants both disappear instead of being cut off on the right side of the screen.
  • At a certain point in the "Place Where We All Live" song, they are shown putting plastic bottles in a paper recycling bin. Given how all three of these bins are identical.
