Tale Of The Tortuguerras

Season 2 Film

(Opening shot: cut to a black screen that pans down to show a orange/blue sky.)

  • [Narrator] “Throughout the world, there are things from the past that remain forgotten and alone...Never...truly resting...awaiting discovery…as a couple of young brave kids venture deep into a forest and discovered more about the strange new land they set foot into…”

(Pan down to Mr. Sun; he hangs low in the evening sky, Grass remained calm and still near the dirt path toward town. A voice from o.s began to vocalizing.)

~ (Song) ~

Ahhhhhh se-ben-ia bagatha gitch e-mod-a!

Ahhhhhh se-ben-ia bagatha gitch e-mod-a!

….What lies...ahead…

(Kai-Lan, her four friends, and the nine animatronics came into view; they sat in the grass watching the sunset with their backs to the camera. The voice earlier turned out to be Cappy.)

...When the day comes out as normal

And things...don’t turn out like they seem…

There’s more to be seen than can ever be seen

Beyond the sun rays that gleam…

Some say those are just legends.

Some say they exist after all.

But now that’s all learned, take the paths that will be turned

It’s all bleak...but you’ve gotta look past it!

All adventures await (so true)!

The wheels of fortune (all adventures)!

The many lives of faith (more to see)!

The many bands of hope…

Til we find the place...on the path unwinding!

All adventures...all adventures awaits…

(Now all got up to leave as walking silhouettes in the afternoon.)

[Spike & Thorn]

Some things will fall by the wayside

And some things will lead us to the stars

And some things will seem like they’re cursed

And some things will be in the airs

[Rintoo, Tolee, Hoho]

There’s far too much to take in here.

More to find that can ever be found…

When you climb up real high to the starry night sky.

Keeps good and small on the endless world…

All adventures await (so true)!

The wheels of fortune (all adventures)!

The many lives of faith (more to see)!

The many bands of hope…

Til we find the place...on the path unwinding!

All adventures...all adventures awaits!

The wheels of fortune, ooh yeah!

The many lives of faith, ooh yeah!

The many bands of hope…

Til we find the place...on the path unwinding!

All adventures...all adventures awaits…

(They stop at the top of a hill.)

On the path unwinding, ooh yeah!

All adventures…

All adventures awaits.

~ (Song ends) ~

(Dissolve to the gang walking down the path. The trees and grass lay still and calm near the dirt path. The kids chatted excitedly, mainly talking about earlier today’s activities. They slowed as they neared a fork in the road. An old looking signpost was stuck in the ground. Chinatown; left. Chinatown Forest; right.)

  • [Tolee] “Hm...I’ve never been to the Chinatown Forest before.”

  • [Rintoo] “You don’t ever want to go there.” (shudders)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Well, let’s get home. Yeye must be very worried about us.”

(The others agreed and turned in the direction of Chinatown. Just then, Rainbowbolt and Volcanian fluttered by; both are carrying books on their backs. The kids smiled as they approached.

  • [Rainbowbolt] “Good evening, everyone.”

  • [Volcanian] “What are kids like you doing out here all alone?”

  • [Hoho] “Hey Volcanian and Rainbowbolt!”

  • [Rintoo] “We’re just on our way home.”

  • [Jack] “You wouldn’t believe our day today! We were at the park hanging out with Whitetail and friends…”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “That sounds like fun, but---”

  • [Jack] “Wait, I’m not finished talking! And so we watched a mother duck and her ducklings going into a lake, right? And then Cappy yells ‘I love duckies’! And I went ‘that’s not what a duck sounds like Cappy’.” (giggles)

  • [Cappy] “I didn’t say that.”

  • [Jack] “Sure you did!”

  • [Volcanian] “That sure does sound interesting, but Rainbowbolt and I really need to get go---”

  • [Jack] “Every last one! Can you believe that?” (Chuckle.)

  • [Tolee] “Say, where are you guys going with those books?”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “We’re heading to Kerogine’s to deliver some books on hauntings and myths about supernatural beings.”

  • [Volcanian] “And we really need to hurry. We really don’t want to be out after dark.”

  • [Rintoo] “Ooh! Can we come with you guys?”

  • [Volcanian] “We’re sorry. The Chinatown forest is really no place for young children like you.”

  • [Manny] “Hey! We’re not that young!”

  • [Spike] “Yeah! We’ll be super careful!”

  • [All fourteen] “Please?!”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “Sorry guys, but we don’t think…”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “...It’s just too…”

  • [All fourteen] “一EEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAA一”

  • [Volcanian] “...There’s just too many…”

  • [All fourteen] “一AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA一”

  • [Volcanian] “Okay, enough! You can come with us.”

(They cheered. He and Rainbowbolt looked at each other, shaking their heads.)

  • [Rainbowbolt] (sighs) “Kids.”

  • [Volcanian] “But you have to promise you’d stay with us the whole time, okay?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “We promise. Let’s go go go!”

(The kids stayed with the pegasi as they approached and entered the forest. Their sight darts from one side to the other, taking in every detail of the forest. Chirping birds, small critters skittering between bushes and trees, beautiful flowers and plants they’ve never seen before.)

~ (Song) ~

Following the leader, the leader, the leader

We’re following the leader

Wherever he may go

(They cross a bridge.)

Dee doo, dee da, a deedle ee oo dee day

Dee doo, dee da, a game we like to play

Dee doo, dee da, the words are easy to say

It’s a diddely-di-a-diddley-dum-de-day!

Dee doo, dee da, a deedle ee oo dee dum

We’re one for all, all are out for fun

We march in line, follow the one in front

It’s a diddely-di-a-diddley-dum-de-dum!

(All begin to whistle the first few lines of the song. Throughout the travel deep into the forest, they turn to a new branching path. Birds flying, squirrels skittering in bushes and trees, and rabbits hopping about. One monkey snatches Kunekune’s hat and tries it on, but it’s too big for its head. Another monkey tries it on, but puts it back on the dragon’s head. Dissolve to the gang walking over another bridge in a marshy area.)

Following the leader, the leader, the leader

We’re following the leader

Wherever he may go

(Cappy suddenly lost his way. He climbs up a tree to look for the gang, who are still walking. He slides down the tree to catch up to them. Cut to the large crew navigating deeper in the forest.)

We’re deeper in the forest, the forest, the forest

We’re deeper in the forest

Because I said so!

Dee doo, dee da, a deedle ee oo dee day

We march along and sounding the words we say

Dee doo, dee da, a deedle ee oo dee day

It’s a diddely-di-a-diddley-dum-de-day!

(At the last line they approached the lair, which is coming to view.)

It’s a diddely-di-a-diddley-dum-de-day!

~ (Song ends) ~

  • [Rainbowbolt] “We’re here.”

(The door opens suddenly, Kerogine and Phantabus float out.)

  • [Kerogine] “Hello and welcome, our great friends.”

  • [Phantabus] “What brings you all here so close to days end?”

  • [Jack] “Ha! That rhymes!”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “Hey there, Kerogine and Phantabus. My brother and I are here to drop off these books you wanted.”

(He holds the books that were on his back into his hooves; Volcanian does the same. The ghosts are given the books.)

  • [Kerogine] “Kind friends, thank you for delivering what is told…”

  • [Phantabus] “...But you should never stay for what will unfold.”

(Both ghosts’ friendly smiles turn into grim stares.)

  • [Kerogine] “Hurry back to Chinatown you must…”

  • [Phantabus] “The darkness tonight you cannot…”

  • [Both] “”

(With that, both disappear and the door had shut on them. Inside, they could here locks being set.)

  • [Jack] “Is it just me, or are they trying to speak in rhyme?”

(The gang stood in silence for what seemed like hours before Kai-Lan cracked it.)

  • [Kai-Lan] (raised an eyebrow) “...Ooookay, that was weird…”

(She shrugged and she and the others, but Cappy, turned. Cappy, however, hadn’t moved from his spot yet.)

  • [Felix] “Cappy, we’re leaving!”

  • [Cappy] “What are they talking out? Kerogine and Phantabus never acted like that before, right?”

  • [Kunekune] “Something bad might be happening…”

  • [Volcanian] “I don’t know...but what I do know is we shouldn’t be staying in the woods after dark.”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “Yeah. Let’s get out of here quick.”

(A cool breeze picked up after the gang left the ghosts’ lair. The kids began to scan the forest and taking in the sights. Cappy stopped suddenly, swearing he had just seen something amongst the trees staring at him. He paused for a long time. After a while, Ulysses noticed Cappy wasn’t following anymore. He turns around and shakes the little kappa from his ‘daydream’. The others stopped as well, impatiently.)

  • [Ulysses] “Cappy! Stop your daydreaming nonsense this instant! What ever are you waiting for?”

  • [Cappy] “I wasn’t daydreaming. I just thought I saw something behind the trees.”

(Manny facepalms; Thorn groans in annoyance.)

  • [Volcanian] “It was probably just a deer or a bear. Come on.”

  • [Manny] “Yeah. You’re slowing us down.”

(The gang started walking again. The kids are forced to stop as they saw the ponies stopping. Now it was their turn to get annoyed.)

  • [Rintoo] (sighs) “What now?”

  • [Cappy] “Yeah. Why are you stopping, huh?”

(There, in front of the gang, lay a massive boulder. It looked way too big to even attempt to climb over, and its extreme length blocked everything in its path.)

  • [Rintoo] “Woah!”

  • [Tolee] “That’s a big rock!”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “ how in the world did this huge boulder get here? It wasn’t here when we came this way before…”

(The little ogre glances the area nervously.)

  • [Oggy] “You don’t think it was...ghosts?!”

(He shivers.)

  • [Rainbowbolt] “Oh, no, Oggy. There’s no such thing a ghosts.”

  • [Spike] “There is such thing as ghosts…”

  • [Thorn] “Yeah.” (sarcastically) “Try telling that to Kerogine and Phantabus…”

(Rainbowbolt gives him a funny look.)

  • [Rainbowbolt] “...Oh…”

(Volcanian and Rainbowbolt began to put some movement on the boulder. They used all the strength they got in their front/hind legs and hooves to give the massive rock a push. With a very strong buck and a forceful push, Volcanian and Rainbowbolt sent the large boulder rolling down the hill and into a lake with a loud splash. Both equines stopped for a moment, breathing heavily.)

  • [Rainbowbolt] “Ugh...that took away some muscle power, didn’t it?”

  • [Volcanian] “Ughh...agreed…”

  • [Thorn] “Oh, cool! That’s done!”

  • [Spike] “Yeah! Let’s get a move-on home!”

(No sooner had Spike begun to dash off he slammed into something big and heavy. He lands on his bottom, moaning in pain. Many more boulders had sat directly behind the first one, and they too blocked all of the path. Rainbowbolt snarled silently.)

  • [Volcanian] “This might take a while.”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “And while we’re moving boulders around, no one here should wander off. Alright?”

(All the kids agreed and nodded in unison; they stood completely still in their spots. After a while, one of them moved again as he was struck with an idea.)

  • [Manny] “Say, can’t we just climb over the boulders instead of taking the time to move them?”

  • [Spike] “Or why not try flying over the boulders?”

  • [Ulysses] “I have another safe suggestion. Why don’t I get rid of them with magic?”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “Well, we could try to climb or fly over the boulders…or get rid of them with magic...”

  • [Volcanian] “...but what will the next person that needs to visit Kerogine and Phantabus do with these huge boulders blocking the path?”

(Both ponies get a round of slightly annoyed faces. The equines looked at each other worriedly.)

  • [Rainbowbolt] (starting to push on large rock) “It may be getting late, but it wouldn’t be right to leave the path cut off like this, you know”

  • [Volcanian] “There’s poison ivy all around this part of the trail, and it’ll be very bad if someone got nasty rashes, horrible blisters, and terrible scars…” (Grunt.) “...simply because we couldn’t take the time to move these boulders.”

  • [Manny] “Ugh…”

  • [Spike] “Sounds reasonable enough. Sorry we didn’t take all that into account.”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “...And what about Kerogine and Phantabus? With these obstructions in the path, my brother and I would be responsible for sealing their only way out.”

  • [Hoho] “Now I bet they have other ways to get out of the forest.”

  • [Volcanian] “Maybe so...but we can’t risk it.”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “We just can’t take that chance. This is the way they like it; no obstructions in the path.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “We understand. We’ll let you take care of those boulders.”

(The kids stepped away and relaxed a bit. Kai-Lan kneels down and looks at the flowers. She watches the ponies converse about all the ways the blocked path could harm other people journeying through the forest. She sighed with a gentle chuckle.)

  • [Thorn] (to Kai-Lan) “So how do you think those boulders got onto the path?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “I can’t even take a guess.”

  • [Spike] “You know, bro, there are a bunch of theories as to how these boulders appeared on the path.”

  • [Thorn] “Aw, shut it, will ya?”

(Spike pokes his nose.)

  • [Thorn] “Don’t poke me!”

(He playfully chases Spike; Kai-Lan sat back and gazed at the flowers again, when a noise caught her attention.)

  • [Voice] “Heh...heh...heh…

(Kai-Lan’s eyes widen in surprise as something giggled at her. She turned her head, spotting a large face peering at her behind a poison ivy tree. She said nothing, but was able to get a look at the creature; his skin is a vivid sky blue color and eyes...there was something strange about them. They glowed in a beautiful orange light. Kai-Lan took a step toward the monster, the glow from the eyes dragging her in, both physically and mentally. A sudden wave of drowsiness hit her and she falls to the ground with her eyelid closing slowly, building up a new world Kai-Lan could see…only in her sleep.)

  • [“Blue Creature”] “Woah!”

(A large blue-skinned, tortoise-like creature with a gray shell tripped over a small rock, smacking into the ground. He had been running so fast the four thunderbolt-shaped appendages on his head drooped down over his face. A voice called out to him through the trees.)

  • [Voice] “Ready or not, here I come, bro! I’m gonna find you!”

(The blue creature ran off again, laughing as he climbed over tree roots. He suddenly stopped as he noticed the trail leads to a massive field of poison ivy plants. Forgetting his game, he martian approached the plants. He looked closer at them, but is careful not to touch. They also smelled strangely sweet, almost like honey. To his left he spotted a thin pathway leading somewhere else. A crunching of leaves and twigs caused him to turn around. Another creature tapped him on the back of the head.)

  • [“Orange Creature”] “Found you!” (Laugh.)

(A different gray-shelled martian with light orange skin and green eyes had emerged from the trees, laughing and prancing about in victory. It took him a moment to realize his partner is not paying attention. He looked over his shoulder.)

  • [“Orange Creature”] “Hey, what’s going on? What are you looking at?”

  • [“Blue Creature”] “Guess what, Sundown? Look at this path I found. Let’s go see where it leads. Want to come?”

(The orange one looks around fearfully and backs away a bit.)

  • [Sundown] “Hey! Not so fast, bro! Don’t you know the rules? We’re not supposed to go anywhere past the poison ivy plants!”

  • [“Blue Creature”] “Why not? What’s out there?”

  • [Sundown] “Because they say the outside is infested with evil creatures and nasty beings you don’t want to bump into or ever want to go near to. Come on...let’s go back home…”

(He uneasily left the scene, his partner following as the the camera fades to black.)

(Dizziness overtook Kai-Lan as she fluttered her eyes open, taken away from the dream. Once she regained consciousness, Jack, Spike, Thorn, and Kunekune are looking down at her, looks of concern are on their faces.)

  • [Thorn] “You alright there?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Huh? What? Oh...I guess I just fell asleep.”

  • [Spike] “You must be tired after a long day.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “No, it just...came to me very suddenly...and…”

(She turns her head and saw the mystery martian pull away from her sight and into the trees. Kai-Lan gets up, the four animatronics watch her, looking confused.)

  • [Spike] “Kai-Lan, what are you looking at?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “I...thought I saw someone in the trees.”

  • [Spike] “It’s probably just your imagination.”

  • [Thorn] “Or some odd-looking thing in your dream.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Guys, I know what I saw. There was a big---”

(She and the four noticed the poison ivy plant field parted to reveal a path for them. The five kids gasped.)

  • [Jack] “Rainbowbolt! Volcanian!”

(Cut to said ponies; now they are getting help from the rest of the crew.)

  • [Volcanian] “Not now Jack!”

  • [Jack] “But, we just…!”

  • [Volcanian] “I said ‘not now’!”

(Kai-Lan, Kunekune, Jack, Spike, and Thorn looked to the path again, then back to the crew. With a deep breath, they stepped onto the path. Thorn realized Kunekune is still standing behind.)

  • [Thorn] “Kunekune, you coming or not?”

  • [Kunekune] “Is this really a good idea?”

  • [Thorn] “I don’t know, but…” (Groan.) “Come on!”

(Thorn grabs his hand and both entered the forest to catch up with the others. All five crossed deeper into the forest. The Chinatown forest began to grow darker the further as the gang walked further deep. The light from the setting sun is blocked out by the huge leaves, and the gang could barely see even two feet in front of them. Not even the light from the flame on Kunekune’s tail was enough to light the way. The five looked around for the mystery creature.)

  • [Kai-Lan] (calling out) “Hello?”

(No immediate or hesitant response.)

  • [Thorn] “I highly doubt anyone could find us here. It’s too dark.”

  • [Spike] “And too quiet!”

  • [Jack] “And what’s creepy is that we can’t go back! These huge thorn bushes behind us appeared out of nowhere. That’s creepy, right?”

  • [Kunekune] “Uh, yes.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Come on now. We must be brave. We must follow that blue guy.”

(It was getting even darker the deeper the five traveled. They noticed that the only way out now is a path they spotted to the south. They pressed on, the new trail bending and curving through the forest. They paused again to listen.)

  • [Voice] “Heh...heh...heh…

  • [Kunekune] “Who was that?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “I don’t know. I’m not familiar with that voice at all.”

  • [Jack] “Are you sure it’s not some kind of joke that a ghost is playing on us?”

  • [Spike] “I doubt it.”

  • [Jack] “Or they just want to play with us!

  • [Thorn] “Jack, why would a ghost---?”

  • [Voice] “ROAR!!

(In a sudden panic, the five ran forward, nearly tripping over rocks and roots. They screamed as they fall into a large clearing. All is dark except for one spot. In front of them is a light.)

~ (Song) ~

Could it be?

Is that an exit I see?

[Kunekune, Jack, Spike, Thorn]

It sure looks like it

Look, it’s brightly lit

What’d we expect it to be

Is an exit, I see…

[All five]

Oh, what’d we expect it to be

Is an exit, I see…

There it is

Now we can jump in with glee!

he Chinatown forest. The entire town was lighted up by large blue party lanterns hanging all over. To their left were multiple shops and small houses. On the right was a long table of desserts. Right in front of them is a large gray turtle-like creature. His shell is colored black and the three appendages on his head appeared straight and slightly drooped downward.)

  • [Jack] “Should know, greet him?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “I don’t see why not.”

(The five approached the tortoise-like martian. His voice has a cheerful, happy tone to it.)

  • [“Gray Tortoise/Martian”] “Hi! Hello there, fellow friends. Welcome to Crater Village, where there’s happiness and magic!”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Oh. That sounds like a nice name.”

  • [Spike] (whispering, to Kai-Lan) “Maybe even too nice...for a town.”

  • [“Gray Tortoise/Martian”] “Oh, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Silver Claw, the professional party planner. You youngsters arrived here just in time, actually. The party just started!”

  • [Thorn] “A party?”

  • [Silver Claw] “Why, yes! Today we’re celebrating the town’s founding anniversary. You’re welcome to join us if you want.. Enjoy yourselves to some food, drinks, and a whole bunch of good stuff that’s enough to satisfy you!” (Chuckle.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “ seem happy…”

  • [Spike] (whispering, to Kai-Lan) “Maybe even too happy? It’s really disturbing.”

  • [Thorn] (ditto) “Maybe even too disturbing?”

(Kai-Lan proceeds to ask more question, but Silver Claw turned away, cutting her off. He walked over to a lantern on the ground. He goes over to a stool by a pole to tie up more lanterns. Cut to frame the five; Kai-Lan’s eyes went wide as she got a look at his chest and she gasped.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Did you guys see his chest? There’s no symbol on it!”

  • [Spike] “So?”

(Kai-Lan reaches into her pocket to pull out a book and shows the four animatronics pictures of the creatures that resembled the blue one they saw earlier and Silver Claw.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Those creatures are known as Tortuguerras. They are large tortoise-like aliens that usually live in outer space. Sometimes, they can be found on Earth, but in remote areas only. Tortuguerras also have symbols on their front side that symbolizes their names, what they tend to do, and/or their occupation. These marks are called Tortuga Marks.”

(She puts the book away.)

  • [Thorn] “Well, uh...looks like that Silver Claw dude doesn’t have one of those, uh, Tortuga Marks.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Yes. But it’s true. Why doesn’t he have a Tortuga Mark?”

  • [Kunekune] “Kai-Lan...about those Tortuga Marks...when do...Tortuguerras get them?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Tortuguerras often get their Tortuga Marks at a young age. They get them when they discover what makes them special.”

  • [Jack] “Well, if what you said is true, there’s no way that guy could have gone all that time without finding his special talent.”

  • [Thorn] “And he’s good with parties.”

  • [Spike] “Shouldn’t he have a few balloons or...confetti or a cupcake as his Tortuga Mark?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Okay, let’s not think about that too much.”

  • [Spike] “Hmm...Is there a food table somewhere?”

(Kai-Lan turned to the tables beside them.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Oh, there are the tables.”

  • [Thorn] “Let’s see what they have.”

(The five looked at the pastries on the table, which turned out to be colored slime blobs.)

  • [Jack] “...Is this what Tortuguerras eat?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Actually, they eat what we eat...but it doesn’t hurt to try.”

(She takes a spoon, scoops up some orange slime, and puts it in her mouth. Her eyes widen in surprise at the taste. She gasped happily.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Wow!”

  • [Spike] “Is that thing actually...good?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Yeah. This tastes like ice cream. Peach-flavored.”

(The others tried the blobs, grinning because of the taste.)

  • [Spike] “Ha! You’re right! They do taste good!”

(The five kids stopped eating the minute they noticed another Tortuguerra martian sitting near the table. It looked at one of the houses with a sad expression; the tuft of red hair on its head shadowing its light pink skin, as well as the red shell and the appendages on its head that resemble ears of a rabbit.)

  • [Spike] “Oh, sorry.”

  • [Thorn] “Did we upset you?”

(The pink creatures speaks, revealing itself to be a female.)

  • [“Pink Tortuguerra”] “It’s not you. It’s just that…” (Sigh.) “...he hasn’t said a word to me all night…” (drops head in despair)

  • [Thorn] “Who’s...he?”

(He followed her gaze, which points toward a pale red-skinned Tortuguerra with a green shell. The three appendages on his head appeared curvy.)

  • [Thorn] “Ah, that must be he.”

  • [Kunekune] “Why don’t you go talk to him then?”

  • [“Pink Tortuguerra”] (Gasp.) “Oh, no. That wouldn’t be proper.”

  • [Spike] (whispering to Kai-Lan) “Is it just me or does she remind me of Ulysses?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “What do you mean, ‘it wouldn’t be proper’? You could just go and say hi.”

  • [“Pink Tortuguerra”] (sighs) “You’re all too young to understand.”

  • [Thorn] “Too young?” (He turns away, crossing his arms.) “Hmph!”

(Curiosity forced Kai-Lan to peek at the pink Tortuguerra’s chest.)

  • [Kai-Lan] (to herself) “She doesn’t have a Tortuga Mark…” (to her friends) “Come on. Let’s go see the red one.”

(The five friends approached the red-colored Tortuguerra. He gazed up at them with the same sad look as the pink one. He speaks in a soft, timid voice.)

  • [“Red Tortuguerra”] (slightly nervous) “Uh...h-hello…”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Hello. What’s wrong?”

  • [“Red Tortuguerra”] “Um...M-my name is Hodeo, and...ugh...see that pink girl over there?”

(He points a finger toward the pink Tortuguerra.)

  • [Hodeo] “Um...h-her name is Jeanette, a-and I was planning to give her a gift tonight, b-but somehow...I lost it! Now I won’t be able to give it to her. It was so pretty too…”

  • [Spike] “She really looks like she wants to talk to you.”

  • [Thorn] “Why don’t you go to her and say ‘hi’?”

  • [Hodeo] “I-I can’t, not without my gift.”

  • [Jack] “I’m sure she doesn’t want a crummy little ol’ gift.”

  • [Hodeo] “Y-you don’t understand. Jeanette is the classiest Tortuguerra in town. A plain Tortuguerra like me doesn’t stand a chance with her unless I bring her something.”

(The five sighed in mere defeat, and decided to see more of the town. They passed by a few more groups, all of them enjoying the party.)

  • [Thorn] “I think you’re right, Kai-Lan. Something isn’t right here.”

  • [Spike] “Every single Tortuguerra we see in town have no Tortuga Marks.”

  • [Kunekune] “Why’s that?”

  • [Jack] “Hmmm, this sounds mysterious. Very mysterious.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “It is strange. How could they all go through their whole lives without finding---?”

(She bumps into another Tortuguerra near the town’s well. He is yellow wearing an orange shell. The appendages on his head have a spiky appearance to it. His voice has a bit of sophistication to it.)

  • [“Yellow Tortuguerra”] “Oh, sorry, little lady.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “It’s okay.”

(She gets help from him to stand back on her feet.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “But...excuse me, sir. Why don’t any of you Tortuguerras have any Tortuga Marks?”

  • [“Yellow Tortuguerra”] “What’s that? Heh heh heh. I don’t understand what you’re talking about, little one. My name is Goldeesh in case you’re wondering. Nice to meet you!”

  • [Thorn] “Oh come on, you know what a Tortuga Mark is. It’s the mark every Tortuguerra receives when they find their special talents.”

  • [Spike] “None of you have them here?”

  • [Goldeesh] “Um, no. Can’t say I’ve ever seen anyone here with a, um, Tortuga Mark. Why does that even matter anyway. Come on, have some fun. It’s a party after all.”

(With that, Goldeesh dashed away. The five watched as he ran to a group of Tortuguerras by a log. Before he slipped away completely Kai-Lan and the four robots noticed something strange on his chest. It wasn’t a Tortuga Mark though; more like a huge bandage that is covering some kind of injury.)

  • [Thorn] “So much for being friendly…”

  • [Spike] “Wonder what he did to himself…”

  • [Jack] “Hey, let’s go ask that guy.”

(He points his gaze at another Tortuguerra. The five spotted another Tortuguerra. His green skin is the same shade as that of mint-flavored ice cream. His shell is dark brown and the appendages on his head appeared wavy. To the kids, he nearly resembles an actual turtle. The five kids go up to him, trying to look as innocent as possible.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Ni hao. I’m Kai-Lan, and these are Kunekune, Jack, Spike, and Thorn. We didn’t know there was an entire town of aliens living in the heart of the Chinatown Forest.”

(The green one giggled, his voice sounding whiny and nearly high-pitched.)

  • [“Green Tortuguerra”] “Well, you’re not the first visitors to say that, little ones. My name is Clover. We’ve got just about everything we need here in our town, so we barely ever leave. Visitors are very nice when they come by, and they too almost never left this place. How are you youngsters enjoying it here?”

  • [Spike] “Oh you guys are all so nice and the food was...good?”

  • [Jack] “But we were all wondering and wondering and wondering...ehhh...we couldn’t help but notice all of you lack what we’ve heard is supposed to be on your chest, which is a Tortuga Mark, which are those things you Tortuguerras get at a young age when you discover your special talent. We were wondering why...don’t none of you have them here?”

  • [Clover] “...Tortuga Marks? What are those?”

  • [Kai-Lan] (sighs) “Nevermind.”

(She spots Goldeesh, pointing at him.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “How about that yellow guy? What happened to him?”

  • [Clover] “Oh, uh, Goldeesh? Heh heh, he’s uh...heh, he’s very clumsy. And...and...ooh! Uh, he was fixing the old well that in the center of the town. He’s probably the best repair martian we have. But...he slipped and fell onto some jagged rocks in the well. He was hurt really bad, but thankfully someone found him. Heh heh.”

  • [Spike] “So he’s a good repair guy, huh? Then why doesn’t he have a Tortuga Mark for that?”

  • [Thorn] “And what about those visitors you mentioned earlier? What did they go through?”

  • [Clover] “P-please. Little ones. Listen, you won’t like what will happen if you keep digging. The abominable symbols are evil, and no one in the town is allowed to talk about them. I could get in trouble for even mentioning them to you, so---” (The gray Tortuguerra shows up.)

  • [Silver Claw] “Oh, Clover. Would you mind lending me a hand with these party lanterns please?”

  • [Clover] “Sure thing, Silver Claw. I was just talking with our little visitors here.” (hushed, to the kids) “But why don’t we carry on with the discussion later?”

(With that, he followed Silver Claw. Kunekune clearly saw Silver Claw staring angrily at Clover, the green one shaking his head. He hoped Thorn and Spike hadn’t gotten him into too much trouble. The five friends wandered over to the well in the middle of town. Thorn, Spike, Jack, and Kunekune lean against a tree while Kai-Lan slumped onto the well’s edge in despair.)

  • [Spike] “You guys heard that, right? Abominable symbols?”

  • [Thorn] “Is that what the whole town thought a Tortuga Mark was…?”

  • [Kunekune] “A curse?”

  • [Jack] “Woah-woah-woah-woah-woah...woah...woah...woah...woah...woah...woah! They sound far too similar! Abominable symbols...Tortuga Marks...notice the similarity?”

  • [Thorn] “Well, we know there’s not a single Tortuguerra with a Tortuga Mark, so some Tortuguerra had to have gotten a Tortuga Mark at some point.”

  • [Kunekune] “But...what do you think happened to those who got a Tortuga Mark?”

  • [Jack] “Maybe they sent them away? Or maybe they forced them to go to a different place and never come home?”

(Kai-Lan puts a hand to her chin.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “I have no idea. This is really mysterious…all those strange things we’ve noticed...”

  • [Jack] “Ooooh...mysterious…”

~ (Song) ~

(She stands up, as well as the other four.)

[All five]

Mysterious, very mysterious.

Mysterious, very mysterious.

Creepy things are happening.

This could be quite serious.

[All five]

Mysterious, ever so mysterious.

Tortuga Marks?

I’ve heard of them, too.

Notice their markless chests?

That’s what we all knew.

They referred these marks as abominable symbols.

It’s true, oh, Jack. Instant red signals

[All five]

Mysterious, very mysterious.

Mysterious, very mysterious.

(The five look around a bit, mainly for the gift.)

[All five]

Mysterious, very mysterious.

Mysterious, very mysterious.

We’ve seen an odd figure, a lurking shape.

Is the dark figure in a muffler and a cape?

Oh, no!

A shell! We’ve seen it lurk as well.

But why does it lurk?

Alas, I couldn’t tell!

[All five]

Mysterious, very mysterious.

Mysterious, very mysterious.

(Finally they move beside the well. Kai-Lan looks around it.)

[All five]

Mysterious, very mysterious.

Mysterious, very mysterious.

I hope that nasty culprit...isn’t listening in and hearing us…

[All five]

Mysterious, exceedingly mysterious.

(Kai-Lan pulls out her book.)

You shared another detail mysterious to me…

More than what we’ve said?

Whatever could it be?

I’ve been thinking, and now I can report;

My friends, I can tell it’s a very shifty sort

(as she walks closer to the well)

Their behaviors are suspicious…

Distrustful, I can tell…

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something…

Down this well!

~ (Song ends) ~

(She looks down the well, and pulls out something red.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Aha!”

(The four robots looked at it with surprise and awe.)

  • [Jack] “A ruby?”

  • [Kai-Lan] (rubs off the dirt on it) “Huh...this is odd. I didn’t think we’d find a ruby in a well.”

  • [Thorn] “That thing looks pretty big.”

  • [Spike] “Dang! I wish I had my camera with me! This huge ruby is worth taking a photo of.”

  • [Kunekune] “What do we do with it?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Hmm...maybe we can---”

(A sudden wave of drowsiness coursed through her body. Kai-Lan falls to the ground, and falls asleep as another scenario plays in her dream.)

(A sky blue-skinned Tortuguerra in a gray shell sat on a wooden chair. He polished an emerald that he had recently found, while looking at a little box. Putting down the emerald he reached for the box, lifting its lid to reveal its contents. A couple of gold nuggets, a few sapphire stones, a large copper stone, and some silver stones...the box was full of rocks and minerals. Only to him, those aren’t just rocks and minerals. These were his treasures. All the things in this box he had found, hidden and stashed around town in the most unusual places. Now, he had one more to add. He reached a hand into his shell, pulling out a large red gem. The jewel sparkled in the light as he smiled at it. His friends always told him he had a knack for finding the more bizarre objects and catching the details no one else thought to look at. A knock was heard on the door; the blue one quickly stuffed the gem in his box and closed it.)

  • [Hodeo] (behind the door) “U-um...h-hello? C-can I come in?”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “Come on in, Hodeo.”

(The red-colored Tortuguerra opened the door and shyly stepped inside. The blue one greeted him and he returned it with a slow nod.)

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “So, what’s going on?”

  • [Hodeo] “Oh, um...I...well, I...I wanted to say thank you for the other day. You telling me to say ‘hi’ to, um, is…”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “So it went well? What happened?”

  • [Hodeo] “Oh, it was nice. I said ‘hi’ and she said ‘hi’ back. We walked a little bit down the street and she said she was going to the town anniversary party. I said I was thinking about going too, so she said she’d love to see me there. She said…’love’ you think she...likes me?”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “Well, maybe. Heh. You like her don’t you?”

  • [Hodeo] “...Yes.”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “Then all you have to do is spend a little more time with her. If she likes you back, it should show.”

(He looked at the box, smirking. He pried the lid open, grabbing out the red stone he had just put in.)

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “This here will give you a little boost.”

(The blue one walked over to Hodeo and placed the gemstone in his hands. The red one looked at the gift, stunned.)

  • [Hodeo] “So...I have to give this to Jeanette?”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “Uh-huh. It’s just something I found laying by the town’s river. Give it to her at the party, she’ll love it.”

(Hodeo’s eyes lit up with joy. He thanked him with praise as he left. He took one final bow before leaving. The blue one chuckled, sitting back down with his emerald.)

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “Good at finding good at finding friendships…”

(Kai-Lan stared up at the four robots looking down at her.)

  • [Thorn] “Kai-Lan!”

  • [Spike] “You alright?”

  • [Kai-Lan] (getting up) “Yeah...I’m fine…”

(She rubs her eyes and yawned.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Wh-what happened?”

  • [Jack] “You dozed off again.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Augh, I did? Well...that dream had taken a lot longer than the last one.”

  • [Thorn] “We tried to wake you up, but it’s like you went into a deep sleep or something.”

(The dragon held the ruby in his hands.)

  • [Spike] “I know Clover had warned us to stop meddling, but there’s just so many questions that still need answers.”

  • [Thorn] “And this sounds like we’ve got a mystery on our hands!”

  • [Jack] “If it is, then we’ll dig deeper and unravel this mystery!”

  • [Kunekune] “But surely someone in this town would have to give us a straight answer eventually.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Right. There’s no problem I can’t solve. I’m sure everything will turn out fine.”

(Wipe to the five at the house where Hodeo is.)

  • [Hodeo] (gasp) “You found it! You found my gem stone!”

  • [Jack] (gives it to him) “Here sir, you can have it back.”

  • [Hodeo] “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

(He grabs the gemstone in his hands and ran over to Jeanette immediately. The pink Tortuguerra looked overjoyed upon the red Tortuguerra’s presence. The kids heard them shout with joy as Hodeo presented his gift. The pair embraced. Cut to the five, who smiled at the two.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “They’re such a happy couple.”

  • [Thorn] “I agree.”

  • [Kunekune] “What should we do next?”

  • [Jack] “Explore the town some more, I guess? I mean, we successfully delivered a lost gift and made two creatures happy.”

  • [Spike] “We could do that.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Let’s go, go, go!”

(Just as they were about to leave, a sound stopped them short. A weak sobbing noise was coming from inside the house Hodeo had been sitting in front of.)

  • [Spike] “Should we...go in? I don’t know if this is anyone’s house, or anything…”

  • [Thorn] “Duh! It is someone’s house, bro!”

  • [Kai-Lan] “And someone’s inside...and they sound really upset. Let’s go check it out.”

(The five kids looked around to make sure no one was watching and slipped inside. The door clicked shut as they stepped inside. This new place is dimly lit and rather messy, unlike the party outside. Boxes of various sizes were stacked up around the walls, sheets were draped over to cover most of the light that’s coming through the windows, and large sheets of plastic are wrapped around a lone couch in the corner. The kids took a few steps further inside, straining to hear more noises.)

  • [Voice] (muffled sniffling) “...Eeehhhhh….uuhhhhh….mmmmmmhhhh….” (Sniff.)

  • [Thorn] (hushed) “Sounds like someone’s feeling down in the dumps today.”

  • [Jack] (hushed) “When there’s a party outside? I bet what that someone needs is a little cheering up.”

  • [Spike] “Shhhh!”

  • [Kai-Lan] (hushed) “It sounds like it’s coming from upstairs. Let’s go investigate.”

(The five kids could clearly heard the weak whimpering coming from above. They made their way up to a flight of stairs. At the end sat a single door, a shadow moved behind the opening. The quintet moved slowly and cautiously down the hall, leaving small footprints in the dust on the floor. Dust also covered the picture frames.)

  • [Spike] (hushed) “I don’t think this person wants us in here. We should probably leave them alone before we tick them off.”

  • [Kai-Lan] (hushed) “Come on, Spike. If there’s anything that I don’t like to see or hear, it’s someone crying.”

(With slight hesitation, she knocked on the door, the shadow behind it suddenly froze at the sound. The others listened and waited for a while.)

  • [Thorn] (hushed) “Nothing…?”

  • [Spike] (hushed) “Come on, Kai-Lan. Just leave him or her alone. It’s the best we could do.”

  • [Kai-Lan] (hushed) “I need to know why this person is upset.”

(Kai-Lan knocks again, and the others were startled by the sudden yell that came from the other side. The creature behind the door has a voice that sounds as if he’s over 70 years old.)

  • [Voice] (from behind the door) “GET OUT!!”

  • [Spike] “No. We’re not leaving until you talk to us!”

  • [Voice] (from behind the door) “I have nothing to say to creeps like you! Leave me alone! You’re all cursed and evil Tortuguerras!”

  • [Jack] “Aha! I knew there’s something bad must’ve been going on here!”

(He beamed in triumph; the thing behind the door, however, fell silent for a while before speaking.)

  • [Voice] (from behind the door) “...You don’t sound like any Tortuguerras I know from outside…”

  • [Kai-Lan] “That’s because we’re not Tortuguerras.”

  • [Jack] “And we’re not from around here either.”

(Suddenly, the door swung open lightning fast as a pair of light orange arms snatched the kids up. Next thing they knew they were being dragged inside the room and the door shut behind them; this unexpected move scared the kids and they were about to scream, but were silenced when they looked up at their captor; a light orange-skinned Tortuguerra with green eyes and in a gray shell. His eyes held a look of both surprise and worry, but looked tired. Though Kai-Lan never met this Tortuguerra before, a sense of familiarity slowly came over her. The room she and her friends are in was a bedroom holding only two beds and a drawer. The martian looked at the kids, glaring at them in the eyes.)

  • [Sundown] “What do you think you’re doing here?”

  • [All five] “Uhhh….what?”

  • [Sundown] (angry) “ here?!”

  • [Thorn] “We were just wondering about this town. You know, looking for answers for our questions We followed some huge creature in the woods. Who are you anyway?”

(The orange one’s hardened expression softened.)

  • [Sundown] (shock) “...You followed someone?...Who exactly did you follow here?”

  • [Spike] “Some big blue guy. He had a gray shell like yours but his eyes were all orange and glowy too.”

  • [Sundown] “So...he’s the one that led you here.”

(Kai-Lan began to have flashbacks of the visions she had; once they ended, her eyes widened.)

  • [Sundown] “ you know who I am?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Uhh…you’re...Sundown?”

(The orange one crumpled and shivered. He suddenly collapsed to the floor in a fit of sobs, surprising the five youngsters. Kai-Lan rushed to his side.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Oh no! Please, sir! I didn’t mean to upset you!”

  • [Sundown] “It’s not fair! It’s not fair!”

  • [Kai-Lan] “What’s not fair?”

  • [Sundown] “All of this!” (Sob.) “The same thing keeps happening again and again and again!” (Sob.) “It-it never ends!”

(Sundown continued to lie there and cry, making the gang’s hearts ache, judging by their expressions. Kunekune, however, was the first to make a move; he wrapped his arms around Sundown’s “neck” and hugged him. Sundown was surprised at this embrace. He whimpers as the dragon released him.)

  • [Sundown] (sighs) “Why…?” (tearfully) “Wh-why would you...even...come here?”

  • [Jack] “Maybe out of curiosity...?”

(Sundown finally dried his eyes.)

  • [Spike] “What happened in here, in this place I mean?”

  • [Thorn] “You were locked up in here, and started crying all of the sudden. What happened?”

  • [Sundown] “Oh, please...please, don’t make me. It’s too hard for me to tell…”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Please, Sundown. You can tell us. We want to know.”

  • [Sundown] “No you don’t. I’m not telling.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “You don’t have to be alone in all this. I’m Kai-Lan, and it is my duty to solve a problem if you have one. It’s obvious something’s bothering you, Sundown.”

  • [Thorn] “Yes. We know other people outside this forest. We can bring you to them so we can help you.”

  • [Sundown] “NO!! Whatever you do, don’t bring anyone else here! They’ll be lost to this town just as we are!”

(He suddenly shrunk back.)

  • [Jack] “You guys keep saying stuff about evil beings, curses, and losing people to the town. What does all that mean? There’s got to be a reasonable explanation for all that!”

  • [Sundown] (clears throat) “First...before I can say anything about what you just mention...why did he bring you all here?”

  • [Kunekune] “You mean the blue guy?”

  • [Sundown] “Yes. Why youngsters like you? Why now? He knows leading people here, especially young children, puts them at risk, so why?”

  • [All five] “I don’t know.”

  • [Sundown] (takes a deep breath) “This whole thing started with him, on that...devastating night.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “What night?”

  • [Sundown] “This night, the night of the town’s founding anniversary. This town’s been here way longer than you think. It’s all because of...the curse.”

  • [Kunekune] “Curse?”

(Sundown took another deep breath and looked very downcast.)

  • [Jack] “Did something bad happen?”

  • [Sundown] “Yes. Something bad did happen, and the forest...didn’t like it.”

  • [Spike] “The forest didn’t like it?”

  • [Thorn] “What does that mean?”

  • [Sundown] “It’s often been an ancient myth that the Chinatown Forest exists as it does today because it has its own special kind of magic, right? Even when our town has been found in the heart of the forest we didn’t have any idea its influences has not been visible to us.”

  • [Thorn] “Wow! Are you saying this town was originally an empty grass meadow?”

  • [Sundown] “We weren’t the only town either. We had another one deeper in the forest near the waterfall down south.”

  • [Jack] “Is that town still there too? Did they believe in the abominable symbols?”

  • [Sundown] “Yes. Abominable symbols. That’s where the whole rumor originated. The Tortuguerras of this town were struck with fear. Something awful happened to that other town.” (coldly) “It all had to do with the abominable symbols.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “But they aren’t curses, nor are they abominable symbols. They’re called Tortuga Marks!”

  • [Sundown] “Tortuga Marks? I never heard them called that before.” (to Kai-Lan) “Those symbols seemed no more a curse than the flowers in your hair.” (to the kids) “But you see, our town used to trade and interact quite well with the other town and the humans that visit here and there, but then one day that all just...stopped. No human came to either towns anymore, and the Tortuguerras here started to get worried. The mayor sent out a small investigation group to go see what’s going on, but all they found were destroyed buildings. The scouts asked travelers if they have heard what happened, and each time they literally got the same story.”

(The kids seemed quite interested in the story, judging by their expressions.)

  • [Thorn] “Holy cow…”

  • [Sundown] “It always starts with a Tortuguerra in town getting a mark on their underbellies. They start performing amazing skills related to the symbol. Then they got another...and another...and another. Each mark made then do more incredible and unbelievable moves but caused great discomfort to the town and its residents. Worse of all, the marks started spreading to other Tortuguerras and soon every one of them were covered head to toe in the terrible things. As the event goes, they worked and performed themselves all to their doom, completely destroying the human-inhabited town in the process.”

  • [Spike] “I’m speechless…”

  • [Kai-Lan] (gasp) “What else happened?”

  • [Sundown] “Well...our members were horrified by the story, and so they made sure every Tortuguerra knew how terrible these marks are. They made every Tortuguerra fear them greatly, made sure no Tortuguerra ends up with a mark on them, or else they will face the consequences…”

  • [Jack] “So...what happens if a Tortuguerra did get a mark?”

  • [Sundown] “Well...I can’t say, but...just because of what happened...and because of our foolishness and fear, we...we seemed to have angered Mother Nature. The forest itself became dangerous and curse-infested, and his fate that night was the spark that started it all!”

  • [Kai-Lan] “So what curse does the Chinatown Forest have now?”

  • [Sundown] “Surely you can take some guesses, little ones. You’ve all been amongst the others out there. Did you notice the patterns?”

(He leads the kids to a window. They looked outside. Kai-Lan saw all the Tortuguerras at the party; Jeanette and Hodeo are nuzzling, Silver Claw and Goldeesh dance together near an old record player.)

  • [Jack] “All I see is Tortuguerras having fun and partying like there’s no tomorrow!” (Laugh; calling out) “HAVING FUN OUT THERE, GUYS?!”

(Sundown puts a hand on Jack’s head to shut him up.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “I’m sorry, Sundown, but...what are we looking at?” (He removes his hand from Jack’s mouth.)

  • [Sundown] “Time.”

(The five kids looked at him with confusion.)

  • [All kids] “Time?”

  • [Sundown] “Yes. Time…something that is nonexistent in this town. This party has been going on for hours, I’m sure. Tortuguerras have been eating and drinking all night, and the tables are probably the same as they were when you kids arrived! All the candles on the cakes haven’t even lost a drop of wax! You surely have talked with some of them, right?”

  • [All kids] “Yes…”

  • [Sundown] “And what did you think about them?”

  • [Thorn] “Well, most of their answers sounded as if they knew what’s in our minds.”

  • [Spike] “Or, it’s more like their answers felt like they were...rehearsed. Like they know what we’re gonna ask before we gave them the question.”

  • [Sundown] “Almost like they’re empty inside?”

  • [Spike & Thorn] “Yeah.”

  • [Sundown] “That’s because they are! Those Tortuguerras out there...they’ve all had their souls stolen, taken by the curse of the Chinatown Forest! This party never ends because this curse has taken away the life of this town. We are all cursed into an endless masquerade here, reliving that one night repeatedly! Your hours pass by to us like seconds...whole years...possibly days...a never-ending torture!”

  • [Kai-Lan] “But how is everything in the town so normal?”

  • [Spike] “If you guys have been here for that long…”

  • [Thorn] “...shouldn’t things look all old and rotten?”

  • [Jack] “And if all that’s true, how do you know all the details?”

(Sundown froze at Jack’s question, looking frightened.)

  • [Sundown] (deep sigh) “There’s another thing that keeps the town untouched by time...some shadow lurking in the darkness, which I...cannot tell you…”

(He slumps down.)

  • [Jack] “But you’re cursed like the others, right?”

  • [Sundown] (tearfully) “Y-yes!”

  • [Jack] “Then how do you have that memory?”

  • [Spike] “You don’t seem empty inside!”

  • [Sundown] “I really don’t know! There’s no legitimate reason I can say why I still have that memory! Maybe it’s the fact that the curse affected the others, but not so much for me! That curse didn’t take my mind! Let’s just say it’s probably my own punishment for...for...for my horrible disloyalty to him! My discipline...for...leaving him to...deteriorate so severely!”

(He slumps further down to the floor.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Sundown, can you tell us more, please?”

  • [Sundown] “That’s enough. I had enough to say. Please, for the sake of your friends and family, just leave!”

(He stood up and began to gently bulldoze the kids to the open door. Tears fall from his eyes as he does so.)

  • [Spike] “Oh come on! We still have more questions here!”

[Thorn] “Yeah!”

  • [Sundown] “No! That’s enough questions! You don’t want to know the mystery of this town! Get out! Run home! Never come back! Leave us to our well-deserved punishment!”

(With that, Sundown slammed the door shut in the kids’ faces. They heard him slumping behind the door and his sobs start up again. Thorn angrily stomped a foot on the floor, only to send a cloud of dust floating into the air. The floating specks made Kunekune sneezed, strong enough to blow every bit of dust clean off a picture frame.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Are you okay, Kunekune?”

  • [Kunekune] “Uh-huh.”

(Kai-Lan noticed a photograph of two young Tortuguerras. Both have gray shells, but each had a different skin color, one light orange and the other a sky blue color.)

  • [Spike] “Are those…?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Yes. It’s Sundown and friend.”

  • [Jack] “They look so happy in that picture.”

(Without warning, the blue one’s eyes suddenly lit up, and Kai-Lan falls over in a deep sleep.)

  • [Sundown] “Come quick! Something happened to Goldeesh!”

(The blue Tortuguerra ran down the stairs and stopped by the open door. Sundown was there, motioning for him to look outside. Goldeesh was being led away through the town with handcuffs trapping his hands. Sundown held his blue friend back.)

  • [Sundown] “Don’t interfere! You’ll be punished.”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “What has he done this time?”

  • [Sundown] “I don’t know, but someone told me he was in the clinic and that a doctor had to fix his injuries and then someone screamed.”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “Hey...look at his underbelly. What is that?”

  • [Sundown] “Oh no...those look very familiar to me. Another Tortuguerra told me about them once. The elders called them…’abominable symbols’. Goldeesh must’ve gotten cursed!”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “I don’t know about you, but I think it looks very nice on him…”

  • [Sundown] “Ugh! Who cares what it looks lik!! It’s a curse for crying out loud! You hear me?! A curse!”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “Alright, pal. I’m just gonna say that I won’t buy it. Why would something that looks so amazing be cursed? I’m going to go find out what is going on.”

(He starts to leave when the orange one stopped him.)

  • [Sundown] “Don’t do that! If they catch you, I’m not going to stop them!”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “But you will regret it! If you can’t stop them, then that’s your decision. I’m going anyway…”

(The blue one left and walked into the street. Many Tortuguerras crowded the path, all trying to get a glimpse of what is happening. The blue one weaved back and forth through the crowd. All around he heard the rising voices of the Tortuguerras as the crowd pushed through town.)

  • [Tortuguerra #1] “They said it all happened at the old well last night…”

  • [Tortuguerra #2] “...I heard it happened while he’s at the clinic.”

  • [Young Tortuguerra] “What wrong with that Tortuguerra, mommy?”

  • [Tortuguerra #3] “Don’t look! He’s cursed!”

(The blue Tortuguerra rolled his eyes, obviously not believing in the curse. Goldeesh was now led to the cabin near the edge of town. The captors and prisoner entered and locked the door, leaving the blue guy outside the dark of the night. He peered through the window. The blue guy saw many Tortuguerras standing inside the cabin. He tried to listen, but could barely make out what they’re saying due to the hushed tones. Goldeesh was chained near a fireplace while a group of Tortuguerras stared at him in the shadows. They spoke to each other, then one spoke to Goldeesh. He slapped Goldeesh in the face. Then he pulled out a sharp piece of burning metal. The blue one cringed as Goldeesh is heard screaming in pain.)

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “What...did I stumble into? That was just...awful! I mean, poor Goldeesh! He’s in extreme pain, it seems.”

(He looks again; Goldeesh is now on the floor, breathing heavily and wincing from the awful burning pain on his chest.)

  • [Goldeesh] “Oooh...oww…”

(The blue martian backs off and starts to run, but bumps into another Tortuguerra. He falls to the ground with a thud. Through blurred vision, he saw the Tortuguerra standing over him and he was shouting something.)

(Fade in to Kai-Lan on the ground and slowly fluttering her eyes open. As she regained consciousness she was surprised to see the four animatronics standing over her, looking worried, and outside.)

  • [Thorn] “Oh, gosh! Kai-Lan, you had us worried!”

  • [Spike] “Yeah! You’ve been like that...ever since we saw that blue guy in the forest.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “I’s weird, though.”

(She gets up, putting a hand to her face.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Oh my…”

  • [Kunekune] “What is it?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Nothing. It’s my head...and I’m sweating…”

  • [Jack] “You haven’t been running, right?”

  • [Spike] “Of course she hasn’t, Jack! We didn’t see here run.”

(Kai-Lan cautiously felt her chest, then her head.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Wow...that was strange…”

  • [Jack] “What is?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “That vision felt so real…it’s like I’m the blue Tortuguerra…”

  • [Thorn] “...but you’re not.”

  • [Spike] “In her vision, she is.”

(The girl scratches at her head.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “I wonder...why am I getting these visions?”

  • [Spike] “Who knows.”

  • [Thorn] “Yeah...real mystery.”

  • [Jack] “Hey, everyone. Check out this path here.”

(In front of the gang is a path leading through a line of trees that lead to darkness.)

  • [Spike] “Could...could that be our way out of this place?”

  • [Thorn] “I hope it is. I really don’t want to be here anymore.”

  • [Jack] “Come on! I wanna check it out!”

  • [Thorn] “Ain’t no way we’re going in there! That blue guy might be in there. He might wait for us to go into the darkness of the forest and eat us alive.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “We won’t know for sure. Let’s go check it out ourselves.”

(She starts off onto the path.)

  • [Kunekune] “Should we really be going in there, Kai-Lan?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “We need to know the mystery behind this town.”

(The four animatronics followed her. Thorn stopped at bit and looked back to the town, the party still went on behind them. The purple-eyed cockatrice steeled his nerves and went to catch up with the others.)

(Clockwipe to the five kids traveling deep into the forest. Suddenly, a flicker of purple light zipped between some trees in the distance. The gang could hear soft laughter over the eerie silence of the forest.)

  • [Voice] “ can do it…”

(The purple light shot past the kids.)

  • [Thorn] “Who was that?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “I don’t know.”

~ (Song) ~

That bright light...I see them.

He’s close now...we’re near him.

[Thorn] Who made them?

I’m bet it’s that martian!

(Further and further they go.)

We’ll chase it...we’ll trail it...pursue it...and tail him.

[Jack] He could be...a bad thief so probably...they’ll hurt him.

[All five]

That fleeting Tortuguerra in the forest.

That martian creeping sneakily along.

He’s making creepy footsteps in the forest.

We’ll find him by the time we...end. This. Song.

(The kids followed the light, swerving around corner and climbing over roots in their way.)

  • [Voice] “Keep’re almost there! Heh heh! Heh heh heh!”

  • [Thorn] “You heard that, right?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “I definitely heard it.”

  • [Kunekune] “But we’re not fast enough to catch up to him.”

  • [Thorn] “Then we can split up. Spike and I will go that way.”

  • [Jack] “Kai-Lan, Kunekune, and I will go this way.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “We’ll catch him for sure.”

  • [Jack] “Intersection!”

(Cut to Kai-Lan, Kunekune, and Jack creeping along.)

This foggy…

And gloomy...and soggy.

The perfect...location for a martian to escape in.

He thinks he’ll...evade us!

He thinks he’s...outplayed us!

[All three]

He’s sneaky...stealthy, but not mentally healthy.

My brilliant!

I’m quick and resilient!

The martian will find he’s no match for her super-brainy, great detective, mystery solving-mind!

(The voice sounded again.)

  • [Voice] (chuckles) “...come on, slowpokes!”

(Kai-Lan, Jack, and Kunekune continue forward.)

[All three]

That fleeting Tortuguerra in the forest.

He thinks he can escape me, but I’m fast!

The martian making footsteps in the forest.

The young detectives collar you at last.

(Kunekune and Jack, hearing another sound, prepared to pounce.)

~ (Song ends) ~

  • [Jack] “There you are, martian!”

(Both jump o.s. Kai-Lan comes into view, a bit surprised, and gasps.)

  • [Kunekune] (from o.s.) “Gotcha!”

  • [Thorn] (from o.s.) “Huh?!”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Uh-oh.”

  • [Spike] (from o.s.) “Ow!”

(Cut to Kunekune and Jack, with Spike and Thorn on the ground.)

  • [Spike] “Guys! What the heck?”

  • [Thorn] “ ‘What the heck?’ is right, bro. What did you tackle us down for?”

  • [Jack] “Oh. You guys aren’t the blue guy?”

  • [Spike] “Heck no!”

  • [Kai-Lan] (walking into the scene) “We are so sorry about that.”

  • [Thorn] “That’s fine, but really, we’re not martians.”

  • [Spike] “That’s true, brother. That’s true.”

  • [Kai-Lan] (looking ahead) “Enough chit-chat. Look there!”

(She points o.s at something. Cut to what she’s pointing at; a large cabin shoved in between the trees. The five kids approached it.)

  • [Spike] “It’s a...a cabin.”

  • [Thorn] “An abandoned cabin, that is.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “How can you tell?”

  • [Thorn] “I don’t know, but it looks like no one has been here for ages.”

  • [Spike] “It’s just worn down, Thorn.”

(Kai-Lan noticed a faint light coming from inside. The windows were covered in dirt, so Kai-Lan couldn’t see through them.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “I see light inside.”

  • [Kunekune] “Is there anywhere to get inside?”

  • [Spike] “Try the door.”

(Jack goes for the door; locked.)

  • [Jack] “Nope.”

  • [Kunekune] “How are we supposed to get in?”

  • [Spike] “Is there a key somewhere that we have to find, or…?”

(Just then…….’ktchicck!’, went the door. Kai-Lan tries to turn it; now it’s unlocked. An eerie creaking noise came from the hinges as Kai-Lan pushes the door open and the four animatronics entered inside with her.)

  • [Jack] “Looks like it just opened without us saying the magic word.”

(Cut to the interior of the cabin; all five discovered it was empty.)

  • [Thorn] “It’s...empty.”

  • [Spike] “...Well, that’s just perfect…”

  • [Kunekune] “All there is in this cabin is a fireplace…”

  • [Jack] “Seriously? That’s the only thing in this cabin?”

(Cut to the fireplace, fully lit and crackling. The five approach the fireplace and knelt/sat down in front of it.)

  • [Jack] “After all this time...a dead end? Really?”

  • [Kai-Lan] (sighs) “...Nothing. All this for nothing. I thought for sure we’re gonna find the answer to our questions here, but...boy, was I wrong…”

  • [Spike] “Looks like the mystery ends here.”

(Fade to a while later; Kai-Lan stands up on her feet.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “I’ve been kind of wondering what’s in that closet…” (She walks o.s.)

  • [Spike] “Kai-Lan...don’t. Let’s not meddle around anymore.”

  • [Kunekune] “Yes. We’ve done too much of that, so let’s not look around anymore.”

(Kai-Lan walks toward the closet and slowly opens the door. Inside, wedged within a few cleaning materials, was something large and white. Kai-Lan leaned in closer, more curious than scared of what the thing is. This thing is was huge, and it looked like it makes some kind of shape. Kai-Lan tries to adjust her eyes to the darkness; she stares as realization slowly creeps over her. The closet has a skeleton that would possibly belong to a Tortuguerra. Kai-Lan gasped as she noticed two red circles appear within the dark eye sockets, glaring down at her. She tried to get away, but the large skeleton steps forward and falls onto her; Kai-Lan is once again in her deep sleep.)

(A pair of eyes slid open. An orange glow flickered to his right as he looked around. He felt his gaze slip to his hands and feet; he was tied up in ropes. He tried to speak, but a rag tied around to his mouth prevented him from saying a word. He spotted shadowed figures standing across the room. They were all looking at him.)

  • [Silver Claw] “This can’t be happening! First Goldeesh, now this one…!” (Grunt.) “’s only a matter of time before the whole town ends up like these two fools! There must be a way to stop these marks from spreading.”

  • [Clover] “It seems these marks cannot be ripped or burned off. One Tortuguerra who spotted him said this mark appeared on him just moments ago.” (Silver grabbed his arm.)

  • [Silver Claw] “Hear me out, Clover! It’s a curse! Remember the stories and rumors?!” (lets go of him) “Maybe it’s just getting worse! It jumped from Goldeesh to him. If this curse multiplies, it could mean serious trouble for all the Tortuguerras. It could even affect one or all of us if it doesn’t end soon.”

(The blue one in ropes saw them all cringe. One of them walked over to a table. The blue Tortuguerra panicked; he tried to free himself from the knots.)

  • [Silver Claw] “Alright, then it seems we don’t have a choice, then. We’ll have to stop it right here, right now.”

  • [Clover] (shaking head) “And how do you plan to do that, Silver Claw? No Tortuguerra in this town has the magic to remove the marks.”

  • [Silver Claw] “Then we’ll remove it directly from the source!”

(The blue one watched as the gray martian grabbed hold of something in his hands.)

  • [Clover] “Silver...wh-what...what are you doing? You’re not planning toー?”

  • [Silver Claw] “Then what’s your idea, huh?! I told you, we have no other options left! We have to do this now, Clover! You hear me?! NOW!”

  • [Clover] “Fine. Get it over with. Just do your thing!”

(The blue one watched as the other Tortuguerras nodding in agreement after a while.)

  • [Silver Claw] “...I’m gonna get this over with…”

(A small flame appears in his hand and he took a step closer. The blue guy tried to speak to him, but could only manage muffled screams. Tears fell from his eyes as the flame drew closer. He closed his eyes, whimpering and bracing himself for what was coming. It was quick, but the burning pain was all over his body. Next he was rolled off the edge of a cliff; his screams come out muffled. The gray one hung his head low.)

  • [Silver Claw] “...Now...the curse is finally gone…”

  • [Voice] (voiceover, dark tone) “Forgive...the dark acts they’ve done…”

(Fade to black.)

(Fade in to the inside of the cabin; Kunekune, Jack, Spike, and Thorn frantically tried to lift the massive skeleton off their fallen friend.)

  • [Kunekune] “Kai-Lan!”

  • [Jack] “Hold tight!”

  • [Spike] “We’ll get it off for you!”

  • [Thorn] “Hang in there.”

(With one strong lift, the skeleton was removed from Kai-Lan; she opens her eyes. She frantically puts her hands to her neck, expecting an injury.)

  • [Jack] “Kai-Lan, you’re alright!”

  • [Thorn] “But the skeleton,’s way too disturbing to look at…”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Guys...I’ve had enough...I don’t want to do this whole detective thing again. I want to stop.”

  • [Kunekune] “Why?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “This whole detective thing had took a horrifying turn! We have to go now!”

  • [Thorn] “What?”

(She gets up and leaves, the others followed behind her. They bursted out into the woods and ran toward the town.)

  • [Spike] “Kai-Lan! Where are we going?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “We have to tell someone, anyone!”

  • [Spike] “But what if they ignored us?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Even if they decide not to listen, they have to care at least a little bit of what we’re going to tell them!”

(The five kids slowed down as they come to a curve in the path that led back to town. The glow from the lanterns barely had any light in them.)

  • [Spike] “Okay...what’s going on?”

  • [Thorn] “Yeah. What’s wrong with Crater Village?”

  • [Jack] “How did they put out all those lights so quickly?”

(What once looked like a happy and colorful place of Crater Village now is the opposite of what it looked like when the kids first entered the village; every building looked collapsed and decayed. The soft grass had been replaced with slimy mud. What was left of the party decorations looked broken and ripped. Everything around them is quiet.)

  • [Thorn] “It’s quiet...too quiet.”

  • [Jack] “This doesn’t look the Crater Village we know. What happened to it?”

  • [Spike] “Yeah. It looked like a tornado wrecked the place.”

  • [Thorn] “Or a bomb demolished everything.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Come on. Let’s not stand around and wonder how this town took a drastic transformation. All we have to do now is leave.”

  • [Kunekune, Jack, Spike, Thorn] “Right.”

(The five kids walked slowly forward, making their way through the destroyed town and avoiding the few slime puddles. A frightened voice growled out and broke the silence.)

  • [Goldeesh] (from o.s., echoed voice) “There was no other way...He would have had the whole town infected!...We couldn’t have that, could we?”

  • [Kunekune] “Was that Goldeesh?”

  • [Spike] “I don’t know, but...there’s no way this is actually happening right now…”

  • [Kai-Lan] “But it is. The whole town is literally a huge mess of dirt and rubble. But if that was Goldeesh speaking, then where is he? Where could he be standing?”

  • [Thorn] “Obviously, nowhere.”

(The kids rounded another curve into town when another noise caused them to stop dead in their tracks. It sounded like liquid bubbling. They turned in the direction it was coming from, realizing it was over by where Clover originally sat. The kids approached the noise, the sound getting louder mixing with the dirt. They stopped dead as a slime-covered hand erupted from the ground, pulling it with a shamble of grass, dirt, and rot. The figure has a monster-like shape to it. It slithered forward, while leaving a slimy trail behind it. The creature looked down at the kids, staring at them.)

  • [Clover] (echoed voice) “The abominable has happened to him this very night…”

(Kai-Lan took a step closer, looking at the monster’s features. The thing’s skin tone is an off-white green color. She gasped, immediately recognizing the Tortuguerra she once knew as the nice one.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “Clover?!”

(He chuckled evilly; the laugh sends shivers to the five youngsters.)

  • [Clover] (echoed voice) “That’s right...little girl…”

  • [Jack] “What happened here?!”

  • [Clover] (echoed voice) “That Tortuguerra had the symbol!...He had to GO!!”

  • [Kunekune] “Why..?”

  • [Spike] (fluttering, angrily) “You monsters took away an innocent Tortuguerra’s life一”

  • [Thorn] (ditto) “一just because he got a Tortuga Mark!”

  • [Kunekune] “How could you?!”

(Another voice broke out from behind the five kids. Clover’s evil smile looks more sinister.)

  • [Silver Claw] (from o.s., echoed voice) “Please...just stay with us! We won’t let the same thing happen to you!”

(The kids turned around to face this monster. Another slime monster was standing directly behind them. This one was bigger than the Clover slime monster. The other monster has a grayish color to its skin.)

  • [Silver Claw] (echoed voice) “Don’t worry. You’ll definitely need our protection. Soon, you’ll be like one of us...FOREVER!!!”

(The monster lunged forward, trying to snatch the kids into his hands. The sudden movement caused the five kids to jump and run away. Deep into town they went; both monsters began to slither after them. They opened their huge mouths and let out an eerie wail.)

(Cut to the five running to the town’s center. After the moans faded, another monster began to form near the town well; its sickly yellowish skin color marks this one to be Goldeesh. He turned toward the kids the minute he opened his eyes.)

  • [Spike] “Here’s a knuckle sandwich for you!”

(At ‘you’, he delivered the punch and ran off with the other kids. They stopped short at a massive wall of rocks that piled between them and the pathway out. It stretched the entire length of the town square and was far too high to climb over. The monster was slowly slithering toward them.)

  • [Jack] “How can we get over this?!”

(A blue light circled one of the rocks in the wall, catching the kids’ attention only for a moment before quickly disappearing. They ran over to the rock, trusting the thing and nudging it with a hand.)

  • [Spike] “It’s loose!”

  • [Thorn] “Cool! Now’s our chance to escape!”

(The kids shoved the rock forward with all the strength their little bodies could muster. The monster was getting closer.)

  • [Goldeesh] (echoed voice) “You look like you could use some protection from us.”

  • [Thorn] “Quiet, Goldeesh!”

  • [Spike] “Yeah! We don’t want your protection!”

[Jack] “We don’t need any protection from this curse!”

(The kids gave the stone one last shove, finally dislodging it. They climbed on and wiggled their way through the whole just as the monster fell in a clattering of slime where they once stood. Cut to behind the wall; the kids bare had any time to get a breath in as two more slimy hands erupted right next to them, clutching at them as they ran away.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “We’re almost there, guys!”

(Indeed, they had made it; the end of the town. The large table that once held the food for the party had been broken in half, its contents decayed in the dirt.)

  • [Jeanette] (from o.s., echoed voice) “Please, don’t leave!...We just want friendship!”

(The kids skidded to a halt. This new voice sounded like it was in pain. The kids turned to see a pair of slime monsters standing where Hodeo and Jeanette once were.)

  • [Hodeo] (echoed voice) “Don’t leave...The others...won’t like it.”

(The kids backed off.)

  • [Spike] “This isn’t right. This has to be some kind of cruel joke.”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Oh, I don’t think they’re joking, Spike.”

(The kids turned tail and made their way for the exit to the Chinatown Forest. Before they could reach the exit, one last slime monster began to form from the ground.)

  • [Thorn] “Arrgh! All this work just to be cut off AGAIN!!”

(The kids noticed something different about this monster; its body wasn’t nearly as slimy and jelly-looking as the others. In fact, he was still completely the same. He even still has the eyes. The monster walked right up to the kids with little effort.)

  • [Sundown] “These fools...even in the afterlife they just don’t understand.”

(He looked right at the kids, sighing deeply and closing his eyes.)

  • [Sundown] “I should’ve protected him, but I made my choice. This is what we get for our wrongdoing...We deserve it.”

  • [Kai-Lan] (shaking head) “...It’s just not right…”

  • [Sundown] (opens eyes) “Why did you stay?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “I guess our curiosity got the better of us.” (hangs head down sadly; the others did the same) “We should’ve known this is what you’re trying to protect us from. We’re sorry.”

  • [Sundown] “Don’t blame yourself for not knowing. The martians of this town deserve this curse as much as I do. I had this feeling that I should protect him, but I pushed that feeling aside, therefore, failing to protect him just like a friend...and a brother would do. I abandoned him when he needed me most! Now it’s just me and these monsters! But you can escape our fate. There’s still hope for you five.”

(He gives the five kids a weak smile. Kunekune wanted to give him a hug, despite his oozing form. Their calmness were interrupted as moans and wails grew unbearable, forcing the five to cover their ears. Sundown glared deathly at the monsters, but his expression softened slightly when he looked down at the children.)

  • [Sundown] “...I had enough of all this hiding and sniveling. I am done being the stupid and immature little child that hides from his problems. You youngsters taught me tonight that I need to be smart and bold enough to give those close to me protection.”

(He nudges the five toward the town exit.)

  • [Sundown] “Run, youngsters. Run as fast as you can! Keep running...and do not stop!”

(With that, Sundown pulls his body into his shell; he spins faster and launches himself into the group of slime monsters. The herd became frantic and confused at the sudden attack. The five ran for the tree line as the mob advanced closer to Sundown. The monsters scratched and yanked at his arm, but he did not stop. Cut to the five watching with horror, except for Thorn; he seems to be enjoying it.)

  • [Thorn] “Woo! Yeah! Go, Sundown!”

(Said orange dude looked back at the five kids right after he packed a punch at one monster.)

  • [Sundown] “What are you waiting for? Run!!”

~ (Song) ~

(The kids nodded and ran off into the forest.)

  • [Kunekune] “I wish we didn’t leave Sundown behind!”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Me too, but...he had to do what he had to do.”

(They noticed the forest was alive with movement; wails and moans of slime monsters echoed throughout the forest.)

[Sundown] (voiceover)

There’s a rough surrender

To the rush of night

When the wails of the monsters

Gave you such a fright

An enchanted moment

And you see it through

It’s enough for these restless warriors

(More monsters approach from the bushes.)

Just to be with you

(The forest grew darker with every minute.)

[Sundown] (voiceover)

Can you feel my pain tonight?

It is where I am...

(The kids saw a patch of moonlight ahead of them; they beamed a little.)

It’s enough...for these wide-eyed wanderers

This is not a scam

Can you feel my pain tonight?

How it laid to rest…

It’s enough...for more beasts and changelings

Believe the very best

(Kai-Lan points upwards.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “We’re almost out of the thicket! Let’s g---”

(Suddenly, a slimy hand wrapped itself around one of her ankles. She screamed in horror.)

  • [Monster] “We’ll protect you...fore---”

(Down comes Kunekune’s fire breath, and the five continued their run out of the forest.)

[Sundown] (voiceover)

There’s a time for everyone

If they only learn

That the twirling kaleidoscope

Moves us all in turn

There’s just many reasons

To the dark outdoors

When the hearts of these frightened voyagers

Beats in time with yours

(They look around, looking for their next path; none. Every part of the woods had closed in on them. Kai-Lan and the four animatronics come together, hugging each other in fear; the girl sheds tears of fear.)

Can you feel my pain tonight?

It is where I am…

It’s enough...for these wide-eyed wanderers

This is not a scam

(Suddenly, everything got quiet.)

Can you feel my pain tonight?

How it laid to rest…

(They looked up, wondered what happened to all the monsters.)

It’s enough...for more beasts and changelings

Believe the very best

(A new sound broke the silence; footsteps. A bluish glow erupted next to them; on the ground there are turtle foot-prints encased in a blue light.)

[“Blue Tortuguerra”] (voiceover)

It’s enough...for more beasts and changelings

Believe the very best

(The prints began to move; the five kids started to follow the prints, pushing themselves through the brush and trees. Then it stopped. The darkness around them made it impossible to see anything. Just then, a familiar figure made himself visible.)

~ (Song ends) ~

(The five kids gasped; it was the blue Tortuguerra. He hovered right in front of them, smiling. When he speaks, he doesn’t sound as old as Sundown.)

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “Hi!”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Uh, hello.”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] (glumly) “Sorry I dragged you all into this.”

  • [Jack] “Let me guess. You were just curious.”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] (brightening) “Ha. How did you know?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Oh, don’t feel bad, sir. We don’t blame you.”

  • [Spike] “Yeah. We were just as curious.”

  • [“Blue Tortuguerra”] “Well then. My name is Moonlight. What’s yours?”

  • [Kai-Lan] “Kai-Lan!”

  • [Kunekune] “Kunekune.”

  • [Jack] “Jack!”

  • [Spike] “Spike!”

  • [Thorn] “Thorn!”

  • [Moonlight] “Those are great names. I’m so glad to meet you all.”

(A low moaning sound made its presence in the distance. Moonlight looked off into the woods.)

  • [Spike] “Woah, buddy. Your Tortuga Mark is a magnifying glass!”

  • [Moonlight] “Yes it is! Turns out, I’m really good at finding things!”

(Kai-Lan suddenly hangs her head down sadly.)

  • [Kai-Lan] “We are so sorry for what happened. Those Tortuguerras did such a bad thing to you.”

  • [Moonlight] “Don’t be sorry. They knew what they were doing was wrong, and they paid the price for their actions.”

  • [Spike] “But they executed you! How can you forgive them so easily?!”

~ (Song) ~

  • [Moonlight] “’s not good to dwell on the mistakes of others. The Tortuguerras of Crater Village were just afraid and had no guilt of what they did. The curse put on them by the Chinatown Forest can be broken, but only with a certain kind of magic…”

  • [Jack] “So why don’t you just make them feel sorry for what they did?”

  • [Moonlight] “That won’t do either, Jack. Unless if they really are guilty for it...then it’s meaningless.” (Sigh.) “Guess I always knew this was coming.”

(He goes to the corner of the screen and peels off the scene around the kids so they find themselves on a cloud behind a bright clear blue sky. Moonlight settles down near them.)

  • [Moonlight] “It’s not the same thing, but really---”

  • [Jack] “But---”

Trust me, pets…

Moonlight---knows best.

(He pushes the kids on the cloud above a huge party.)

Moonlight knows best

Listen to the Moonlight

It’s a sunny world out there

(Another push.)

Moonlight knows best

One way or another

Nothing will go wrong, I swear

(He opens a cloud to show a candy-filled world.)

Party lanterns, candy

Chocolate and confetti

Ice cream in a bowl,

It’s great!

(Close that up and pushes the cloud above a Chinese New Year party taking place.)

  • [All five] “Wow!

  • [Moonlight] “Yes!”

  • [Jack] “And---”

  • [Moonlight] “Oh, it is just too soon.” (The kids frown; still in rhythm) “Oh, enough with the frowns. It just upsets me!”

Moonlight’s right here

Moonlight will protect you

(Small, imaginary monsters crawl toward the kids; Moonlight slaps them away.)

Youngings, here’s what I suggest

Feel less fright

Stay with Moonlight

(He stands on a cloud.)

Moonlight knows best!

(Wipe to him pushing the cloud through a clean blue sky. He looks glum again.)

  • [Moonlight] (stays in rhythm) “Go ahead, get trampled by monsters. Go ahead, get mugged and left to rot. Me? I’m just a ghost, what do I know? I only haunt and haunt and haunt.” (The five shake heads at him.) “Go ahead and leave me, I deserve it. Let me rot alone here, be my guest.”

(He immediately brightens up when the kids did.)

When it’s too late

Hold on...just wait…

Moonlight knows best

(He lets out with a hearty laugh, as he makes balloons appear with a snap of two fingers. The kids played with them.)

Moonlight knows best

Take it from your buddy

In the dark, you won’t survive…

(The balloons turn into various scary creatures as he names them.)

Creepy, crawly goblins

Hissing constrictors

Ahh! They’ll eat you up alive!

(He hastily pushes the cloud away.)

Sensitive, naive

Definitely grubby

Ditzy and a bit...well...hmm...cute

(Moonlight pinches his cheeks.)

Yes, I believe

Gettin’ kinda chubby

I’m just saying ‘cause I love you!

(The kids suddenly find themselves shrouded in darkness; the slime monsters are approaching.)

Moonlight understands

Please, don’t worry

I just have one thing to do!

(He begins to fade, but only so the five can still see him.)

  • [Moonlight] “I’ll get you youngsters out of this. Promise.”

(He takes a deep breath.)

Don’t forget it

You’ll regret it…

(On that second line, his form began to fade away, leaving the kids alone in the dark and the monsters to come slithering toward them. Moonlight’s voice suddenly sounded as he said one last note.)

[Moonlight] (voiceover)

Moonlight knows best

~ (Song ends) ~

(At ‘best’, the screen turns white. Fade in to Volcanian, Rainbowbolt, and an angry Yeye. He sputtered and moaned as he pushed his way through the brushes. He holds flashlight to light his way; the brothers followed behind.)

  • [Yeye] (sigh) “Oh no...These bushes are just way too thick!”

  • [Rainbowbolt] “I told you you have to ride on me so you can get a bird’s-eye-view.”

  • [Yeye] “Well, I’m fine, thank you.”

  • [Volcanian] “Those meddling kids…! We gave them one very simple instruction; stay put and don’t wander off! Then what do they do?! Exactly the opposite!!”

  • [Yeye] (sigh) “ hard is it to sit still for just ten minutes?”
